Centrica appoints non-executive director

Centrica plc is pleased to announce that Mrs Mary Francis has been appointed a
Non-Executive Director of the company, effective 22 June 2004. All non-executive
directors are also members of the company's Audit and Remuneration Committees.

The Chairman, Roger Carr, said: 'The appointment further strengthens and
complements the composition of the Board. Mary brings considerable and
wide-ranging experience to our deliberations which will be invaluable as we
continue to grow and expand our business both here in the UK and overseas.'

Mrs Mary Francis is Director General of the Association of British Insurers and
a director of the Bank of England.

the Listing Rules.
