Reed Elsevier PLC announces that today, it purchased (through UBS Limited) 400,000 Reed Elsevier PLC ordinary shares at a price of 644.6636p per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Reed Elsevier PLC holds 59,255,914 ordinary shares in treasury, and has 1,198,507,498 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares). Since 2 January 2013 Reed Elsevier PLC has purchased 1,771,000 shares.

Reed Elsevier NV announces that today, it purchased (through UBS Limited) 227,469 Reed Elsevier NV ordinary shares at a price of €11.2203 per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Reed Elsevier NV holds 37,638,056 ordinary shares in treasury, and has 688,547,219 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares). Since 2 January 2013 Reed Elsevier NV has purchased 1,024,969 shares.
