Tate & Lyle PLC ('the Company') announces that a grant of options in
respect of ordinary shares of 25 pence each of the Company was made
today under the Tate & Lyle 2003 Performance Share Plan to the
following Executive Directors:

Shares under option will only become capable of release to Executive
Directors to the extent that certain performance criteria are
satisfied by the Company over a three year performance period which
commenced on 1 April 2003. Shares will not be released to Executive
Directors for a further year after the end of the performance period
(and, thereafter, can be released up until 31 March 2013). No
consideration is payable for the grant of the options. The
consideration payable on the exercise of the options is £1.
