Tate & Lyle PLC was informed on 7 April 2003 that Barclays PLC and its
subsidiaries held 29,234,298 ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC on 3
April 2003 which is a notifiable interest under Section 199 of the
Companies Act 1985, being 6.06 per cent. of the nominal value of the
relevant share capital, increased from their holding on 16 January
2003 of 24,124,599 ordinary shares which was then 5.00% of the nominal
value of the relevant share capital.
