Tate & Lyle PLC was informed on 28 May 2003 that Barclays PLC and its
subsidiaries held 28,968,069 ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC on 22
May 2003 which is a notifiable interest under Section 199 of the
Companies Act 1985, being 6.01 per cent. of the nominal value of the
relevant share capital, increased from their holding on 30 April 2003
of 28,378,115 ordinary shares which was then 5.89% of the nominal
value of the relevant share capital.
