SPLENDA(R) Sucralose to Be Used in Coca-Cola North America's New Addition to the
                           Diet Coke Family

Tate & Lyle PLC is pleased to confirm that, as Coca-Cola North America has
announced, SPLENDA(R) Sucralose will be used in the new addition to the Diet
Coke family to be launched in the second quarter of calendar 2005. Diet Coke
Sweetened with SPLENDA(R) Brand Sweetener will feature the SPLENDA(R) logo on
both the label and the packaging.

Whilst this was part of our business plan and will have no material impact on
Tate & Lyle's short term earnings, it is further confirmation of the longer term
market potential of SPLENDA(R) Sucralose.
