Interim Management Statement for the three months to 30 September 2011
Investment Objective
The investment objective of Aberforth Smaller Companies Trust plc (ASCoT) is to
achieve a net asset value total return (with dividends reinvested) greater than
on the RBS Hoare Govett Smaller Companies Index (Excluding Investment
Companies) (RBS HGSC (XIC)) over the long term.
Aberforth Partners LLP are contracted as the Investment Managers and
Secretaries to the Company.
Features
* During the 3 months to 30 September 2011, the Company's net asset value
fell by 19.4%. By comparison, the Company's benchmark, the RBS HGSC (XIC)
Index, fell by 15.1%. All figures are total returns.
* As at 30 September 2011, the share price was 538p, representing a discount
of 14.1% to the net asset value.
* During the 3 months to 30 September 2011, the level of gearing increased
from 8.4% to 11.2%.
* 50,000 shares were purchased for cancellation during the period under
review for a total consideration of £272,000. As at 30 September 2011,
there were 96,316,792 shares in issue.
* A first interim dividend in respect of the year ending 31 December 2011 of
6.45p, an increase of 7.5%, was paid on 26 August 2011.
