Alliance Trust PLC announces that pursuant to the merger of the Company and The
Second Alliance Trust PLC becoming effective today, Alliance Trust Savings
Nominees Limited ("ATSN") is the registered holder of 135,290,052 ordinary
shares of 2.5 pence each in the capital of the Company, being 20.14% of the
ordinary share capital.

ATSN is the registered holder of shares owned beneficially by customers of
Alliance Trust Savings Limited ("ATS") in PEPs, ISAs and Investment Plans
provided and administered by ATS. It also holds shares for ATS, as trustee, on
behalf of customers who are members of the self-invested personal pension
provided and administered by ATS.

ATS is a subsidiary of the Company.
