                            Purchase of Own Shares                             

Further to the authorisation granted to the Company at the AGM held on 23 April
2002 and the buy-back of 1,620,000 shares undertaken in July, the Board of
Microgen plc have determined to undertake a further buy-back of shares for
cancellation in the period 14 October to 18 October 2002 for up to an
additional 2 million shares.
