ARM ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF FORMER PRESIDENT MR. J.A. CHISSANO TO THE
COMPANY'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Johannesburg, Thursday 21 April 2005

African Rainbow Minerals Limited ('ARM') (JSE : 'ARI' LSE : 'AGM') today
announced the appointment of (the former president of Mozambique) Mr. Joaquim
Chissano as a non-executive director to the companies Board of Directors.

Mr. Chissano's appointment is effective from 22 April 2005.

'ARM is a growth company with tremendous opportunities in both South Africa and
the rest of Africa. We are therefore honoured to welcome Mr. Chissano to the
ARM Board,' commented Patrice Motsepe, Executive Chairman of ARM.

'Mr. Chissano played an extremely important role in the history of South Africa
and in the larger Africa. His knowledge and expertise in dealing with complex
matters will add huge value to the ARM Board,' he continued.

Aside from the fact that Mr. Chissano is a long term friend of South Africa, he
is also very passionate about the development of Africa. We see these qualities
very much aligned with the ARM strategy,' concluded Patrice.
