The company was yesterday informed that on the same day in Newcastle upon Tyne,
under the terms of the Bellway plc (1996) Employee Share Option Scheme ('96
ESOS') 16,500 (0.013%) Bellway plc 12.5p ordinary shares were transferred to
Ted Ayres for a consideration of £8.44 per share.

Immediately thereafter 12,276 of these Bellway plc 12.5p ordinary shares were
sold at a price of £16.463 per share.

Following the above transaction, Mr Ayres has a beneficial interest in the
Company as follows:

Ted Ayres - 24,359 (0.20%)

The other interests of the directors remain unchanged.
