                     APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR                     

The Board of The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (`Berkeley'), the urban
regenerator and residential developer, is pleased to announce the appointment
of Mr John Armitt as a Non-Executive Director with effect from the 1 October
2007.

John Armitt is currently Chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority and
Chairman of the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council. From 2001 to
2007 he was Chief Executive of Network Rail and its predecessor, Railtrack. A
civil engineer by training, he was previously Chief Executive of Costain and
Union Railways.

Berkeley confirms that there is no other information to be disclosed pursuant
to Section 9.6.13 of the Listing Rules in relation to the appointment.

Victoria Mitchell, Chairman of Berkeley commented: "I am delighted that John
Armitt will be joining the Board of Berkeley. He has a wealth of experience and
expertise which will be of significant benefit to Berkeley and he will make a
most valuable contribution to the Board."

The appointment will also ensure that the Main Board of Berkeley now complies
with the Combined Code's recommendations regarding the balance of the Board,
following the retirement of Tony Palmer at the last AGM.

There are no further matters requiring disclosure under Listing Rule 9.6.13.
