BlackRock North American Income Trust plc

Placing Programme and Equity Issue

Since the initial public offering, BlackRock North American Income Trust plc
(the "Company") has issued 19,488,500 new ordinary shares, at a premium to net
asset value, via tap issues and a placing programme. This has been to satisfy
continual investor demand. The Company is now close to exhausting its authority
under the placing programme and will be putting forward shareholder proposals
for a new placing programme.

The Company is also considering the issue of C shares, which will include a
pre-emptive element, to meet demand from new and existing investors.
