Commenting on the markets, Richard Davis, representing the Investment Manager
noted:
Commodity markets performed well in July, with mining and energy shares gaining
3.8% and 4.5% respectively, as data released during the month was generally
positive in terms of the outlook for the global economy. Base metals bounced
firmly off their June lows, with copper rising back above the US$3/lb to a
close of US$3.30/lb, its highest level since early May. Of note was the
drawdown in LME metal inventories during the month. Gold prices slipped back
below the US$1,200/oz level as investors took profits. In the energy sector,
oil prices moved higher to close at US$79/Bbl. BP remains on course to "kill"
the leaking Macondo well in early August.
