PURCHASE OF OWN SHARES

The Company announces the buyback of 29,000 ordinary shares to be held in
treasury at a price of 509.50 pence per share. The issued share capital of the
Company following these buybacks will be:
Ordinary shares - 43,841,312 including 2,358,065 shares held in Treasury
Ordinary shares - 41,483,247 excluding 2,358,065 shares held in Treasury
Convertible bonds - $ 79,948,000
The above figure of ordinary shares less treasury shares in issue of 41,483,247
may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which
they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a
change to their interest in the Company under the FSA's Disclosure and
Transparency Rules.
