Statement re Removal of Investment Restriction

Further to its announcement of 16 March, the Board of BlackRock Smaller Companies Trust plc (the “Company”) has consulted with the Company’s largest shareholders concerning the review of its current intention that AIM listed stocks should not exceed 40 per cent of the Company’s portfolio by value.

Following that consultation, the Board announces that it is amending this restriction to 50 per cent of the portfolio by value. As the amendment does not constitute a material change in investment policy requiring (inter alia) approval of shareholders at a general meeting of the Company, it will take immediate effect.
