Board Appointment

 Appointment of Clive Grundy as an Executive Director to the Board of Compass  
                                   Group PLC                                   

Compass Group PLC announces today that Clive Grundy, Human Resources Director,
will be appointed to the PLC Board as an Executive Director with effect from
1st October 2002.

Clive Grundy joined Compass Group in 1985 initially as human resources director
for the UK Division and subsequently held senior positions in operations and
other functions. He took on Group-wide responsibility for human resources as a
member of the executive management team in 1996.

Francis Mackay, Chairman of Compass Group, commented:
