Diageo plc (the "Company") announces that it received notification on 12
October 2006 for the purposes of Sections 198 to 208 of the Companies Act 1985,
from The Capital Group Companies, Inc ("Capital") that as at 10 October 2006
Capital had, through its legal entities, increased its interest in the
Company's ordinary shares of 28 101/108 pence ("Ordinary Shares") to
138,215,551 Ordinary Shares, representing 5.00 per cent. of the issued share
capital. The issued share capital of the Company as at 10 October 2006 was
2,764,527,233 excluding 280,011,864 Ordinary Shares held as Treasury Shares.
