easyJet Plc - CEO and Group FD Interviewed on R...
LONDON, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite the soaring cost of fuel taking its
toll on easyJet's half yearly
profit figures, Andy Harrison, CEO of the low-cost airline, says that forward
bookings for the busy summer period show no sign of a slowdown in UK consumer
spending. Moreover, any wider economic downturn would offer up a host of
opportunities for the company to gain market share across Europe as its
weaker rivals struggle, he says.
But fuel is not the only rising cost that the Luton-based carrier is
having to deal with. Landing charges at Gatwick Airport and Stansted have
risen during the period, reflecting what Mr Harrison calls "a sign of the
failure of UK airport regulation".
