HEADLINE: Appointment of New Director

The Board of The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc (`the Company') is pleased to
announce the appointment of Glen Suarez as a Non-Executive Director of the
Company with effect from 24 May 2013.

He is Deputy CEO of Knight Vinke Asset Management. Prior to joining Knight
Vinke, he was a Partner in Soditic Limited and before that he was Head of
European Utilities at Morgan Stanley. He is a specialist in the banking and
energy sectors and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in
England and Wales and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Mr Suarez currently holds 2,000 shares in the Company.

There is no information to be disclosed in respect of paragraphs 9.6.13(2) to
9.6.13(6) of the Financial Conduct Authority's Listing Rules.
