Director Appointment

                               BOARD APPOINTMENT                               

We are pleased to announce that Sidney Barrie will join the Board of FirstGroup
plc as Group Commercial Director in August 2005. His responsibilities will
cover commercial activities across the Group.

Sid is currently a senior partner at Paull & Williamsons solicitors where he is
Head of Corporate. He has had a long association with the Group including
advising on the buyout of Grampian Regional Transport Limited, the listing of
GRT Holdings plc and subsequent merger with Badgerline Group plc to form
FirstGroup.

Louise Ruppel will continue her role as Group Legal Director with
responsibility for the Group's legal function.

Commenting on the appointment, Moir Lockhead, Chief Executive said: 'I am
delighted that Sid is joining the Group. His appointment will further
strengthen our Commercial Team and I am confident that he will make a
significant contribution to the Group.'
