Director Appointment                              

Further to the announcement made on 29 March 2004, FirstGroup plc confirms that
David Leeder will join the Board as Director, UK Bus, with effect from 1 May
2004.

David Leeder holds 817 FirstGroup plc shares and has options over 118,624
FirstGroup plc shares at the date of his appointment.

There are no other details required to be disclosed under paragraph 16.4 of the
Listing Rules.
