                   Board and Senior Management appointments                    

FirstGroup plc announced today the following Board and senior management changes.

Jeff Carr, Finance Director, has informed the Board of his intention to leave
the Group to take up the role of Chief Financial Officer of Royal Ahold NV, an
international retailing group based in the Netherlands. Jeff will leave the
Group on 11 November 2011 and a search for his replacement will commence
immediately which will allow the Board to consider internal and external
candidates. Nick Chevis, who has been with the Group since 1997 and held a
number of senior finance roles, will become Acting Finance Director to ensure
the continuation of strong financial leadership and control.

Vernon Barker joins the senior management team as Managing Director of the UK
Rail division. Vernon has been the Managing Director of First TransPennine
Express (FTPE) since the Group commenced operation of the franchise in 2004.
During this time passenger numbers have grown from 13m to 24m per annum and a
number of significant improvements have been delivered including the
introduction of new Anglo Scottish services and a £260m fleet of trains.

and most recently the franchise was successfully extended for a further three
years. He has a proven track record in railway management and a strong focus on
customer service. This will be invaluable as we continue to build on our market
leading position and develop our existing and new rail interests."
