                               BOARD APPOINTMENT                               

We are pleased to announce that Professor David Begg will join the Board of
FirstGroup plc as a Non-Executive Director in August 2005.

David is currently a member of the Board of Transport for London and an adviser
to Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive. He is also a Director of
the Centre for Transport Policy at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.
Until earlier this year he was the Chairman of the Commission for Integrated
Transport.

Commenting on the appointment, Moir Lockhead, Chief Executive said: 'I am
delighted that David is joining the Board of FirstGroup. He has tremendous
experience and an impressive record in public transport and transport policy. I
am confident that he will make a significant contribution to the Group.'
