FirstGroup plc Statement re: First Great Western Ufton Nervet Rail Accident
A First Great Western train from Paddington to Plymouth was involved in a
collision with a motor vehicle at a level crossing on Saturday 6 November
resulting in a serious derailment. The accident caused fatalities, including
our train driver, and a number of passengers were injured. The Group would like
to express its condolences to the bereaved and injured.
Moir Lockhead, Chief Executive said: 'I am deeply shocked and saddened by this
accident. The safety of our passengers and staff is our highest priority. Our
thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives and the injured.'
Staff from First Great Western will be doing everything possible to minimise
disruption to passengers. The vast majority of services on First Great Western
will be in operation as normal or using diversionary routes from today. Bus
replacement services will be in operation between Newbury and Didcot Parkway
and Swindon to Pewsey on First Great Western Link.
