Lisbon Betting Ignites After Cowen Gets Green L...
BRUSSELS, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Punters across Europe have ploughed into a
successful Yes vote in the
forthcoming Lisbon Treaty referendum re-run in Ireland. Bookmakers Paddy
Power have reported "significant" levels of betting from punters across
Europe through their online betting site paddypower.com on a successful Yes
vote being carried by the Irish people second time around.

The odds on a successful Yes vote have tumbled from 4-5 to 1-6 with Paddy
Power and today's agreement by EU leaders to provide the legal guarantees
being sought by the Irish Government is sure to see these odds shorten
further.
The Lisbon referendum re-run is sure to bring back painful memories for
Paddy Power who famously paid out EUR80,000 to punters who backed a Yes vote
on polling day at last year's original referendum. Much to the bookies dismay
the No vote was successful and triggered a further EUR100,000 payout for the
blushing bookie.
Communications Manager for Paddy Power, Ken Robertson, said "It's not
often that we get things wrong, but when we do, we generally do so in
spectacular style! After last years debacle we're already faced with a
potential payout of almost EUR100,000 should the Yes vote get carried and
this figure is certain to mushroom the closer we get to polling day in
Ireland."
Will the Lisbon Treaty be passed second time around?
1/6 Yes
7/2 No
