GM Names Borst Corporate Treasurer
NEW YORK, Dec. 20 -- General Motors Corporation today
appointed Walter G. Borst as Treasurer. Borst is currently executive director
of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for GM's German subsidiary, Adam Opel
A.G.
In his new position, Borst will lead the GM Treasurer's Office, based in
New York, with additional operations in Detroit, Brussels and Singapore. The
global treasury operations include capital planning, business development and
analysis, risk management, worldwide pension funding and analysis, worldwide
banking, and overseas and domestic finance.
Borst will continue as CFO of Adam Opel AG until January 31, 2003, while
transitioning to his new position. A successor in Ruesselsheim will be named
at a later date.
'Walter brings solid experience in the Treasurer's Office, as well as
important operational experience, to the post of GM Treasurer,' said GM Vice
Chairman and Chief Financial Officer John Devine. 'The combination of finance
and operational experience is increasingly important in the company's efforts
to produce great cars and trucks through efficient capital spending, and in
improving our financial performance and strengthening our balance sheet.'
Borst, 41, has been CFO of Adam Opel A.G., based in Ruesselsheim, Germany,
since October 2000. Previously, he served as assistant treasurer in the GM
Treasurer's Office from 1997 - 2000.
He also has served as controller for Adam Opel Manufacturing, director of
Financial Analysis and Planning for GM Europe in Zurich, and a variety of
early assignments in GM treasury operations and GM Finance in Detroit. Borst
joined GM in 1980 as a cooperative student.
He earned a master's degree in business administration from Stanford
University under the GM Sloan Fellowship program (1987), and a bachelor's
degree in finance from Kettering University in Flint, Mich. (1985).
