RM plc - Directorate
The Department for Education and Skills has announced today that Tim Brighouse
has been appointed the first Commissioner of Schools for London, with effect
from 1 January 2003. This is a new role and is intended to have a major impact
on education in London. Professor Brighouse feels - and the Board of RM plc
accepts - that the significant commitment of time and energy that his new role
demands makes it inappropriate for him to continue as a Non-Executive Director
of RM.
In the light of his new appointment, Professor Brighouse will stand down as a
Non-Executive Director of RM plc at the end of the year. He will continue with
his unpaid, advisory role as Chair of RM's Education Strategy Board.
John Leighfield, Chairman of RM said,
'Tim is an excellent choice to drive forward standards of education in London.
We will miss his input to the Board, however I understand his decision and wish
him well in what is an immensely important job. I'm delighted that Tim will
continue to make an important contribution to RM through his advisory role as
Chair of our Education Strategy Board.'
Professor Tim Brighouse said,
'The role of Commissioner for Schools for London is one of the most important
jobs in education, and a challenge I must accept. Doing a good job in London
will require time and effort, and is incompatible with staying on the Board at
RM. '
'RM has been at the forefront of the development of educational ICT in the UK,
and the possibilities for the future are very exciting. I was delighted to be
asked to be part of that future and I'm pleased that I will still be able to
contribute to the Group as part of their Education Strategy Board.'
