RM plc broadens the range of products sold to schools with the introduction of
RM IntelliDesk
RM plc, the UK's leading supplier of ICT software, systems and services to
education establishments, has broadened the range of products it sells to
schools with the introduction of RM IntelliDesk. IntelliDesk is an integrated
PC/desk combination designed specifically for the school environment and offers
significant benefits in terms of space utilisation and security.
As part of its strategic review announced on 28 May 2002, RM stated its
intention to remain a broadly-based schools ICT supplier and to extend the
range of products it sells to its UK customer base. Earlier this year RM
introduced the RM ClassBoard, an interactive whiteboard, which has now sold
approximately 1,000 units and is in use in 500 schools. The Group has also
signed an agreement with Sony, which will allow the Group to supply Sony VAIO
notebook computers to UK education establishments.
IntelliDesk is a further example of RM expanding its product range with
differentiated products that address the specific needs of schools. IntelliDesk
has already been well-received in language colleges, with teachers valuing the
ability to move easily between ICT and traditional work in a single lesson.
IntelliDesk supports the DfES' vision of a classroom of the future that fully
integrates ICT into the educational environment. Space utilisation is a major
problem for schools and limited desk space availability is often a constraining
factor on introducing computer equipment into existing classrooms. IntelliDesk
provides a dual-purpose solution, where the computer monitor can be instantly
folded away to give a normal desktop surface. RM has worked closely with
specialist furniture designers and manufacturers to develop IntelliDesk and has
exclusive rights to sell the product to UK educational establishments.
Commenting on the introduction of IntelliDesk, Tim Pearson, Chief Executive of
RM, said,
'Education establishments are not like office environments or homes. They have
specific constraints and special requirements. Part of our mission as a
broad-based ICT supplier to schools is to identify and develop products that
are particularly valuable to educators. Along with the introduction of RM
ClassBoard and our distribution agreement with Sony, the introduction of
IntelliDesk shows RM extending the range of products we make available to our
customer base.'
