SINGAPORE AIRLINES POWERS AHEAD WITH LATEST ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT
Rolls-Royce announced today that it had secured agreement with Singapore
Airlines to supply the latest version of its Trent engine series for a new
fleet of 20 Airbus A350 XWB twinjets.
The value of the business, involving Trent XWB engines, is $800 million at list
prices. In addition, the engines will be maintained by Rolls-Royce through a
12-year TotalCare services agreement. Deliveries will take place between 2013
and 2015.
The Trent XWB is the only engine offered on the A350 XWB twinjet. A single
version, with a thrust range of 75,000 - 95,000lb, will be capable of powering
all variants of the new aircraft.
Sir John Rose, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce, said: "The strong relationship
between Singapore Airlines and Rolls-Royce continues to grow with this latest
demonstration of confidence in the Trent engine series. Singapore Airlines has
a deserved reputation for world-class customer service, and we are committed to
providing the highest quality of equipment and services to help them sustain
that position."
Singapore Airlines currently operates 58 Boeing 777s powered by Trent 800
engines, and five Airbus A340-500s with the Trent 500. As launch customer for
the Trent 900-powered A380, it will take delivery of its first aircraft later
this year. A fourth Trent variant, the Trent 700, has been selected by the
airline for 19 A330 twinjets.

NOTE TO EDITORS:
1. Singapore Airlines has been a major Rolls-Royce customer since 1995, when
it placed what was, at the time, the largest order in the company's history
for the supply of Trent 800 engines for its Boeing 777 aircraft.
2. Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE), Silkair and all the budget
carriers operating out of Singapore use the V2500 engine for their A320
fleets. The V2500 is produced by International Aero Engines, in which
Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder.
3. Rolls-Royce is a major player in Singapore's aerospace industry, accounting
for over ten per cent of the country's aerospace output. Through the
company's joint ventures with key local industry partner Singapore Airlines
Engineering Company - Singapore Aero Engine Services Limited (SAESL) and
International Engine Component Overhaul (IECO) - Rolls-Royce currently
employs nearly 1,000 people in Singapore, accounting for nearly five per
cent of the total industry workforce. One of its most significant
contributions has been its role in enhancing Singapore's aerospace
industry.
4. In January 2006, Rolls-Royce opened a regional procurement headquarters in
Singapore to handle the management of suppliers in South Korea, Taiwan,
Malaysia, India and Singapore, following considerable growth in operations
around the region. It also manages its regional energy business from
Singapore and the marine business has a regional headquarters in Singapore.
5. Rolls-Royce has also been active in research and development activities in
Singapore, through investments in setting up Rolls-Royce Fuel Cell Systems
and the Rolls-Royce Singapore Advanced Technology Centre with Singapore's
Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to look into a broad
portfolio of technologies.
6. More generally, Rolls-Royce has a broad customer base comprising 600
airlines, 4,000 corporate and utility aircraft and helicopter operators,
160 armed forces, more than 2,000 marine customers including 70 navies, and
energy customers in 120 countries. Rolls-Royce is a technology leader,
employing 38,000 people in offices, manufacturing and service facilities in
50 countries.
