ILFC ORDERS ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT ENGINES FOR BOEING 787s
Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines have been chosen by International Lease Finance
Corporation (ILFC), the world's largest aircraft leasing company, to power up
to 20 firm and option Boeing 787 Dreamliners in a deal potentially worth $600
million at list prices.
In addition, the engines will be offered to ILFC's lessees with TotalCare®
services agreements, offering lifetime protection for each powerplant, and
which are portable between ILFC's customers
ILFC is scheduled to receive the first of its Trent-powered Boeing 787s in
2010.
Mike Terrett, President - Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, said: "The
versatility of the Trent 1000-powered 787 is a good strategic fit for ILFC due
to the excellent economics it offers across a range of operations. It gives
their customers extensive potential for their route networks, whilst at the
same time providing ILFC with a flexible solution to fit many customers'
needs."
Three Trent 1000s are now involved in ground testing following the engine's
initial run, which took place on schedule in February. Three further
development engines are on build and nearing completion.
The Trent 1000 is the launch engine for all marks of the Boeing 787 and takes
to the air for the first time on the company's Boeing 747 flying test bed in
the first quarter of next year. Engine certification will be achieved next
summer, followed by the Trent's maiden flight on the 787 Dreamliner. Entry into
service with launch customer ANA (All Nippon Airways) is scheduled for mid
2008.

1. In addition to its selection by ILFC and ANA, the Trent 1000 has also been
chosen by Air New Zealand, Northwest Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines,
Icelandair and aircraft leasing company LCAL. Firm orders have now been
placed for a total of 99 Trent 1000-powered Boeing 787s.
2. The Trent 1000's thrust range is 53,000-75,000lb and it will be certified
with ratings to power all current members of the 787 family from service
entry in 2008.
3. The Trent 1000 is the launch engine on all three variants of the Boeing
787. ANA will begin operating the 787-8 in mid-2008 and will also introduce
the short-range 787-3, in 2010. Air New Zealand recently announced that it
was converting its order of 787-8s to 787-9s with service entry also in
2010. Air New Zealand and ANA were the first two airlines to select engines
and both opted for the Trent 1000.
4. A total of seven Trent 1000s will be used in ground testing while nine are
scheduled to support the flight test programme.
5. Including today's announcement, ILFC has now placed firm orders for A330,
A340, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 aircraft involving over 200 Trent series
engines. It also includes Rolls-Royce RB211-powered Boeing 747s and 757s in
its portfolio.
6. TotalCare agreements offer a comprehensive range of services tailored for
individual customers. Rolls-Royce takes full responsibility for the engine
fleet in return for payment by the customer of an agreed dollar rate per
flying hour.
