CATHAY PACIFIC ORDERS TRENT 700 FOR ADDITIONAL A330s
Cathay Pacific has placed another order for Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines, to
power an additional eight Airbus A330 twinjets announced today. The value of
the business is around $280 million at engine list prices.
These latest additions to the Cathay Pacific fleet bring its total of
Trent-powered A330s to 56, including those operated by its sister airline,
Dragonair.
Engines for the eight aircraft in today's announcement, scheduled for delivery
between 2010 and 2012, will include the latest fuel burn improvement
modifications, designed to lower operational costs and further enhance the
engine's environmental credentials as the cleanest and quietest on the A330.
Mick Forey, Senior Vice President - Civil Large Engines, Rolls-Royce, said:
"The Trent 700 is optismised for the A330, and is the most powerful and
flexible option for the aircraft. It has established a clear lead as the engine
of choice on the A330 with 50 per cent of orders - a position underpinned by
its `green' standards."
As well as the Trent 700, for which it was the launch customer in 1995, Cathay
Pacific also operates two other versions of this market-leading series - the
Trent 500 on its Airbus A340-600s, and the Trent 800 which powers its Boeing
777s.
Links between Cathay Pacific and Rolls-Royce were established through the RB211
engine series on the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar and the Boeing 747.
