THAI SELECTS ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT 900 AND TOTALCARE FOR A380 FLEET
Rolls-Royce announced today that THAI Airways International had selected the
Trent 900 to power its fleet of six Airbus A380s in a deal valued at $500
million at engine list prices. The Trent 900 now has 58 per cent of firm and
option orders for the A380.
The aircraft are due to be delivered from late 2010 onwards, and the engines
will be backed by a long-term, TotalCare® services agreement, based on an
agreed dollar fee per engine flying hour.
The Trent 900 will become the fourth member of the Trent family to join the
THAI Airways International fleet, demonstrating both the broad portfolio of
Rolls-Royce products and services, and the ability of airlines to grow through
the Trent series of engines.
THAI was the launch customer for the Trent 800 on both the -200 and -300
versions of the Boeing 777 and has 20 aircraft in its fleet which also includes
the Trent-powered -200ER version. The airline also operates the Trent 500,
supported by a TotalCare® agreement on 10 Airbus A340-500 and -600s.
Khun Tummasak Chutiwong, Managing Director, Technical Department at THAI, said:
"Rolls-Royce has become a key partner in our fleet expansion, providing the
highest levels of support and understanding of our operation, and we look
forward to extending this relationship with this Trent 900 order."
Nick Devall, Executive Vice President, Customer Business at Rolls-Royce, said:
"THAI's decision to choose the Trent 900 for its fleet not only shows the
strength of our relationship but highlights the market-leading performance of
each successive generation of the Trent family."
The Trent 900 is the only engine currently in-service on the Airbus A380. Since
entering commercial operation in October 2007, the Trent 900 fleet has
accumulated more than 18,000 hours of flawless operation.
Ten of the 13 operators who have made engine selections on their A380s have
chosen the Trent 900.
