Re Contract

27 May 2009 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS €70 MILLION TRENT CONTRACT TO POWER GERMAN POWER STATION Rolls-Royce has been awarded a €70 million contract by RWE, Germany's largest electrical supplier, for four Trent 60 generating sets to replace 1970's technology gas turbines at the Emsland combined cycle power station. These units were included in the number of Trent engines previously announced by Rolls-Royce as part of its order book. As the most efficient and environmentally friendly gas turbine in its class, the new 58MW Trent 60 WLE sets will push efficiency and flexibility of the Emsland gas fired station. The re-powering will increase efficiency by 12% in optimum load. This will lead to less gas consumption and reduced emissions (e.g. carbon dioxide). Charlie Athanasia, Vice-President of Power Generation for the Rolls-Royce Energy business, said "Re-powering existing stations with the higher efficiency Trent gas turbine can achieve a number of environmental and production benefits for the operator. "By utilising existing buildings, transmission lines and major parts of the existing station components, such as the electrical generator and boilers, the concept of re-powering effectively increases capacity without the need for a new power station. This greatly reduces the time between order placement and the delivery of increased power." The new revised generating plant is scheduled to enter service in 2011. The Trent 60 engines will be manufactured at the Rolls-Royce plant in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, while the packaging of the generating sets will take place at the Company's Mount Vernon, Ohio facility. NOTES TO EDITORS 1. Rolls-Royce is a world-leading provider of power systems and services for use on land, at sea and in the air. It operates in four global markets - civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy. It has energy customers in 120 countries. 2. RWE is among Europe's five largest utilities. It is the biggest power producer in Germany and the second largest in the UK. RWE is active in generation and transmission as well as the sale and trading of energy and commodities. Their 66,000 employees supply 14 million customers with electricity and six million clients with gas. 3. RWE, through their UK operation RWE npower, has a contract to operate the Trent powered Derby cogeneration power station installed on the Rolls-Royce Derby site. 4. The Rolls-Royce Trent 60 is currently being installed in new power stations being constructed in Australia, Belgium, China, France, Germany, Israel, New Caledonia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and the US. Engines already in service are in Belgium, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Germany, Qatar, Sharjah and the UK. 5. The number of Trent 60s sold or reserved by operators now totals 57 in 17 countries, for both power generation and oil and gas installations, with 24 engines in service in eight countries. 6. The Rolls-Royce Trent 60 engine is rated at 40 per cent efficient, meaning less fuel needs to be consumed to produce the same amount of useable energy compared to other types of power generating plant. 7. Rolls-Royce has invested approximately €1.5 billion in developing the aero engine facilities in Germany and the development of the successful BR700 family of engines. 8. The BR700 family of engines was developed at the Rolls-Royce Dahlewitz plant where final assembly of all BR700 engines takes place. As the centre for two-shaft aero engines within the Rolls-Royce Group, Dahlewitz is also responsible for the Tay, Spey and Dart engine series. Rolls-Royce Deutschland provides support to 5,000 engines in service worldwide.
