ROLLS-ROYCE WINS £50 MILLION SINGAPORE OFFSHORE SHIP DEAL
Rolls-Royce, a world-leading provider of power systems and services for use on
land, at sea and in the air, has won a £50 million contract to design and equip
two advanced offshore ships.
The ultra-deepwater anchor-handling vessels will be designed for Lewek
Shipping, a subsidiary of Singapore company Ezra Holdings. The ships, which
also mark the first Rolls-Royce contract from Ezra Holdings, will be built by
Singapore-based Pan-United Marine and delivered in 2009.
Rolls-Royce will also deliver control and propulsion systems, as well as
dynamic positioning, deck machinery and winch equipment.
The vessels are designed to meet Lloyd's Register EP (Environmental Protection)
standards, covering engine emissions and discharges to sea and air. To cut fuel
consumption and reduce emissions Rolls-Royce has developed a specialised hybrid
propulsion system.
The ships, designated UT 788CD, will also perform towing, supply and standby
duties. Rolls-Royce UT-Design ships have been highly successful in the commercial
shipbuilding market, with more than 550 vessels built or on order. Around 60
UT-Design vessels have been built are or under construction in Asian shipyards.
Supply and anchor-handling vessels are still the most common ships to be
ordered in the UT-Design series, but special variants have been developed for
surveillance, coastguard duties, cable laying, seismology, oil-well
intervention, operations on the sea floor, and for use in Arctic waters.
