ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT 700 WINS $1.2 BILLION ORDER FROM INTREPID GROUP
The Trent 700 has been selected by Memphis-based Intrepid Aviation Group for a
fleet of 17 Airbus A330 freighters. The order, including a TotalCare long term
services agreement, is valued at $1.2 billion at list prices.
As a launch customer for the A330 freighter, Intrepid will take delivery of the
first of its new aircraft in 2010. The freighters will be offered to customers
with a lifetime TotalCare services agreement, under which Rolls-Royce assumes
responsibility for all engine maintenance.
Ron Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of Intrepid Aviation, said: "The Trent
700-powered A330 freighter offers our customers the greatest levels of
flexibility combined with unbeatable economics. In line with our desire to
offer equipment with low environmental impact, the Trent will deliver the best
levels of emissions on these aircraft."
Chris Cyr, Executive Vice President - Americas at Rolls-Royce, added: "We're
delighted to welcome Intrepid to the expanding Trent family of customers. As a
lessor, they play an important role in widening the distribution of our
products. As the only engine specifically designed for the A330, the Trent
700's effectiveness is reflected in its market-leadership on this aircraft."
A programme of continuous improvement, involving the introduction of the latest
Trent family technology to the Trent 700, will ensure increased benefits to
customers, such as the lowest fuel burn of any engine on the A330 freighter.
NOTE TO EDITORS:
1. Rolls-Royce employs more than 7,300 people in North America at more than 64
locations. Activities in North America generate nearly $1 billion annually
to US suppliers, supporting around 11,000 additional US jobs.
2. In the last three years, the Trent 700 has been successful in more than 80
per cent of A330 engine competitions featuring aircraft leasing companies.
3. The Trent 700 is the only engine on the A330 that has been specifically
designed for the aircraft, resulting in better performance, reliability and
maintenance costs. It is the market leader on the A330 with a 47 per cent
share of orders.
4. The Trent 700 is the most environmentally friendly engine on the A330. It
is the quietest and cleanest option, with the greatest margin to CAEP 4
legislation.
5. The Trent 700 was the first engine in the Trent family to enter service, in
March 1995, and is the most powerful engine for the A330, with a maximum
in-service thrust of 72,000lb.
6. Rolls-Royce is working hard to improve the environmental impact of its
products. Each year Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with its partners,
invests around £700 million on research and development, two thirds of which
has the objective of reducing the environmental impact of its products. This
technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise and emissions.
