ROLLS-ROYCE TO POWER TWO ADDITIONAL CARGOLUX 747 FREIGHTERS
Eurpoean freight operator, Cargolux Airlines International S.A., has again
selected the Rolls-Royce RB211-524H-T engine to power its two additional Boeing
747-400F freighters, scheduled for delivery in 2007 and 2008.
These new aircraft will take Cargolux's fleet of Rolls-Royce powered 747s to 11
out of a total of 16 aircraft.
The engines for both aircraft will be included into the existing TotalCare®
agreement which has been extended for an additional five years.
Ulrich Ogiermann, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cargolux, said: "The
Rolls-Royce RB211 engines provide us with optimum versatility and economics for
our 747-400 freighters while minimising the environmental impact of our
worldwide operation."
Charles Cuddington, Chief Commercial Officer, Civil Large Engines at
Rolls-Royce, added: "Repeat orders demonstrate confidence in our products and
support. We're proud to continue our long relationship with Cargolux, which
started 36 years ago when the airline began operations."
Cargolux first introduced the Rolls-Royce powered Boeing 747-400F in 1998. The
relationship between the two companies extends back to 1970 when Cargolux began
operating a fleet of Canadair CL-44 freighters powered by the Rolls-Royce Tyne
engine.
