ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $750M TRENT BUSINESS FROM QATAR A

19 June, 2003 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $750M TRENT BUSINESS FROM QATAR AIRWAYS Rolls-Royce announced at the Paris Air Show today (19 June) that it had won an order worth around $450 million from Qatar Airways for Trent 500 engines to power up to ten long-range Airbus A340-600s. Qatar Airways has chosen an A340-600 version with additional payload/range flexibility, which, like the rest of the series, is powered solely by the Trent 500. The engines will be covered by a long-term TotalCare agreement valued at approximately $300 million. This takes the number of Trent 500 customers on TotalCare contracts to seven. This is the first time Qatar Airways has selected Rolls-Royce power for its fleet, and delivery of the first aircraft is scheduled for summer 2006. The remainder of today's order will be delivered between 2006 and 2011. The A340-600 is capable of flying non-stop from the airline's base in Doha to the United States. Mick Forey, Senior Vice President - Airlines, Rolls-Royce, said: 'We're delighted to have the opportunity of forming a long and successful partnership with Qatar Airways. The Trent engine family continues to set the pace in its sector with a market share of over 50 per cent on the new generation of wide-body airliners.' Rolls-Royce will book a further $8 million as its share of an additional order by Qatar Airways for V2500 engines to power two Airbus A321 twinjets. The V2500 is produced by the International Aero Engines consortium in which Rolls-Royce is a senior partner.
