Severn Trent Plc announces today that John Smith has decided to step down as a
non-executive director of Severn Trent Plc and Severn Trent Water early next
year.

Sir John Egan, Chairman of Severn Trent Plc, said:

"We fully understand John's decision given his increased responsibilities and
workload as Chief Executive of BBC Worldwide.

"We are extremely grateful to John for his four years of service to Severn
Trent and we wish him all the best for the future."

Severn Trent will now search for a replacement for Mr Smith and will make a
further announcement in due course.
