Appointment of Non-Executive Director and Chairman Designate
Sir John Egan is to retire as Chairman of Severn Trent Plc and Severn Trent
Water Limited at the close of the Severn Trent Plc Annual General Meeting on
Tuesday, 20 July 2010.
Sir John was appointed to the Board of Severn Trent Plc as a non-executive
director in October 2004 and appointed Chairman of the Board in January 2005.
Sir John has successfully led the Severn Trent group through challenging times
since his appointment, culminating in Severn Trent Water Limited being awarded
Utility of the Year at the end of 2009.
The Boards of Severn Trent Plc and Severn Trent Water Limited are pleased to
announce that Andrew J Duff has been appointed an independent non-executive
director with immediate effect and will succeed Sir John as Chairman of both
companies following Sir John's retirement. Mr Duff has also been appointed to
the Nominations Committee.
Mr Duff has a strong track record working in regulated businesses. He was
appointed Chairman of RWE npower plc earlier this year having previously been
Chief Executive from 2002. He is also a Non Executive Director of Wolseley Plc.
Mr Duff's biographical details are set out below.
Richard Davey, Senior Independent Director, who led the selection process for
the new Chairman, commented:
`We believe Andy has the relevant experience to make him the right Chairman to
lead the group through the next phase of our development, building on the firm
foundations put in place by Sir John'.

Biographical Details: Andrew J Duff
Andrew Duff became RWE npower's non-Executive Chairman, in an advisory
capacity, in January 2010. Prior to this, he was Group Chief Executive Officer,
RWE npower for six years, from September 2003 to December 2009.
A mechanical engineer by background he spent his early career with BP. His
international assignments included Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA before
becoming Director of Strategic Planning for BP Oil, USA in 1996.
Andrew joined National Power in 1998 and became a member of the team that
delivered the transformation strategy for the UK business. This involved power
plant divestments, a demerger of Innogy from National Power, the acquisition
and integration of Midlands, Northern and Yorkshire Electricity and the sale of
Innogy to RWE.
Mr. Duff is a member of the CBI Climate Change board and is a fellow of the
Energy Institute.
