SouthernEra Diamonds Appoints Mr. Chris Reynolds to the Position of     

Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

    TORONTO, Jan. 4 /CNW/ - SouthernEra Diamonds Inc. (TSX: SDM, AIM: SRE)

("the Company") today announced the appointment of Mr. Chris Reynolds to the

position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Reynolds

was previously the Vice President Finance, Controller and Secretary for both

SouthernEra Diamonds Inc. and Southern Platinum Corp. (TSX: SPC).

    Mr. Mark Rosslee, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for

SouthernEra Group, continues to serve as the Senior Vice President and Chief

Financial Officer for Southern Platinum Corp. and will remain a member of the

Executive Committee of SouthernEra Diamonds Inc. Mr. Reynolds will continue to

serve as the Company Secretary for both SouthernEra Diamonds Inc. and Southern

Platinum Corp.

    Prior to joining SouthernEra in 2001, Mr. Reynolds held various

accounting and finance positions at TVX Gold Inc. and Inmet Mining

Corporation.

    SouthernEra Diamonds is Canada's largest fully integrated diamond company

with extensive diamond exploration in five countries including Canada,

Australia, Gabon, the DRC and South Africa. This represents the fourth most

active global diamond exploration program after the majors DeBeers, BHPB and

Rio Tinto. The Company also operates the Klipspringer Diamond Mine in South

Africa and maintains an 18 percent free-carried interest in the Camafuca
