    TORONTO and LONDON, July 20 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of SouthernEra
Diamonds Inc. today announced with regret the resignation of the Company's
President and CEO, Mr. Patrick Evans.

    Mr. Alasdair MacPhee, Executive Vice President of the Company, has been
appointed to the position of acting President and CEO and will remain in this
position until the Company has completed a comprehensive internal and external
search for a successor to Mr. Evans.

    Alasdair MacPhee holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Mechanical Engineering
from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Scotland and an MBA. He has twenty five
years of diamond operating experience. He had 17 years of continuous service
within the De Beers group of companies, in various operations and project
management positions. His last position with De Beers was as Technical
Services Manager of Jwaneng mine, one of Botswana's premier diamond producers.
He joined SouthernEra in 1997 as a Project Manager and now holds the position
of Executive Vice President.

    Mr. Evans has served as President and CEO since 2001. Prior to that, he
was a non-executive director of the Company and following his resignation he
will resume the role of a non-executive director of SouthernEra Diamonds Inc.

    The Chairman of the Board Dr. Christopher Jennings commented: "The Board

    SouthernEra Diamonds is Canada's largest fully integrated diamond company
with extensive diamond exploration in six countries including Canada,
Australia, Gabon, the DRC, Zimbabwe and South Africa. This represents the
fourth most active global diamond exploration program after the majors
DeBeers, BHPB and Rio Tinto. The Company also operates the Klipspringer
Diamond Mine in South Africa and maintains an 18 percent free-carried interest
in the Camafuca Diamond Project in Angola.
