                             APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR

Spectris plc, the precision instrumentation and controls company, is pleased to announce 
the appointment of Professor Leo Murray as a Non Executive Director.

Professor Murray is a graduate of Glasgow University and has for the past 16 years been
head of the Cranfield School of Management.

Before joining Cranfield, he had a successful international business career including
management positions with BP, Courtaulds, AT Kearney Management Consultants and 
Rothmans International.

The Company confirms that there is no information which requires disclosure pursuant to
Rule 16.4 of the Listing Rules.
