Spectris plc announces that, following completion of the £75 million share
buy-back programme announced with the company's 2006 Preliminary Results in
February 2007, it intends with immediate effect to undertake additional share
repurchases up to the limit granted by the shareholders at the 2007 AGM. The
shares will be purchased into treasury between the date of this announcement
and the date of the next AGM, 16th May 2008.

The company will make its usual end of period trading update on 10 January 2008
and will announce its preliminary results on 22 February 2008.
