SOFTWARE RADIO TECHNOLOGY PLC
AWARD OF CONTRACT
The Directors of Software Radio Technology plc ("SRT") are pleased to announce
that they have been informed that Tianjin Communication & Broadcasting Group
Corporation Limited ("TCB"), one of SRT's TETRA technology licence customers,
has been awarded a contract to supply TETRA handsets to a major agency of the
Chinese Government.
Following an extensive trialling process, TCB has been awarded a contract for
an initial delivery of TETRA handsets which are expected to be manufactured and
delivered to the customer over the next three months. TCB has informed SRT that
further substantial orders from this agency can be expected in the future.
TCB is a major, government-owned Chinese electronics manufacturer, developing
and producing a range of products, from professional railway communications
products to mobile phones. TCB licensed SRT's TETRA handset reference design in
2005 and has been working in conjunction with various official agencies and
other international end user customers to create a robust TETRA handset. The
handset is now in the final stage of testing prior to production and therefore
sales activity has commenced.
Mr Ma, TCB's Vice President said:
"TETRA will be a very large market in China and we have been working closely
with several government agencies in respect of our new handset. Our
relationship with SRT has enabled us to quickly create the handset our end
customers wanted, which is why we have been awarded this contract. We are also
excited about the prospects for our handset in the international markets
worldwide, although this will take time to build."
Mr ZhaoGuobin, TCB's TETRA Project Manager said:
"Our handset was compared to others in the market from western companies by our
customer. Our handset won because it offers the same level of functionality but
with enhanced performance, improved reliability and is stronger, all of which
are important considerations for end users operating in tough professional
environments."
Simon Tucker, SRT's Commercial Director said:
"Even starting with our reference design, the development of handset operating
on the TETRA standard is a significant achievement. Being awarded a contract by
a major government agency against significant competition is an outstanding
result and we congratulate TCB on this achievement. We are delighted and look
forward to continuing our work with TCB as they carve a significant share of
the growing Asian and International TETRA markets."
