LONDON, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Standard Chartered, the international banking group, today reported record results and noted that although Asia was slowing, Asian economies were not facing an economic crisis like the West. In a video interview Peter Sands, Group Chief Executive, Standard Chartered Bank, said: "What you're seeing is a very sharp, cyclical slowdown, as a result of collapsing demand in the West. But Asia doesn't face the same sort of structural de-leveraging that Western economies are going through." The emerging markets Bank also reported that it had a strong capital position, balance sheet and good liquidity. Group Finance Director Richard Meddings confirmed that Standard Chartered would not be looking for any government bailouts. "We're eligible to join those schemes but we certainly have no current intention of doing so." He added: "the bank is in good shape, strongly liquid, well capitalised."
