                  APPOINTMENT OF NEW NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR                   


3i Group plc announces the appointment of Mr Danny Rosenkranz as a
non-executive Director of the Company with effect from 25 January 2000.  

Mr Rosenkranz is aged 54 years and was until 31 August 1999 a director and
Chief Executive of The BOC Group.

There are no other details required to be disclosed in accordance with
paragraph 16.4 of the London Stock Exchange's Listing Rules.
