Chairman and Deputy Chairman Appointments

3i Group plc is pleased to announce that Simon Thompson has been appointed a non-executive Director of the Company with effect from today, 13 April 2015. He will become non-executive Chairman of the Board with effect from the close of the Company's 2015 AGM in succession to Sir Adrian Montague who is stepping down from the Board to concentrate on his other appointments including taking the Chair at Aviva plc.  It is expected that the 2015 AGM will be convened for 25 June 2015.

3i Group plc is also pleased to announce that Jonathan Asquith, non-executive Director and Senior Independent Director, has also been appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board with effect from 13 April 2015.

Simon Thompson said: "It will be a great privilege to become Chairman of 3i at a time when the Group is performing so well.  I'm looking forward to joining 3i and helping build on the firm foundations for growth and future success laid down during Sir Adrian's chairmanship."

Sir Adrian said: "I am sorry to be stepping down from 3i at this exciting time because of my other responsibilities. I am confident that I am leaving the company in very good hands, with the Board under Simon Thompson's leadership and with Simon Borrows and his very capable management team.  I would like to thank all my colleagues for their support over the five years I will have chaired 3i and, in particular, Jonathan Asquith for his great assistance as our Senior Independent Director, and to congratulate him on his well deserved appointment as Deputy Chairman."

About Simon Thompson

Simon Thompson is Chairman of Tullow Oil plc and a non-executive Director of Rio Tinto plc. Currently, he is also Senior Independent Director of Amec Foster Wheeler plc and a non-executive Director of Sandvik AB, but will step down from both these boards following their AGMs in May 2015.  After graduating from Oxford University, Simon worked in investment banking with N M Rothschild and S.G. Warburg before joining Anglo American plc, where he became an executive Director and Chairman of the Tarmac Group.  He has also served on the boards of AngloGold Ashanti Ltd and Newmont Mining Corporation.
