ABB appoints new head of sustainability affairs
Zurich, Switzerland, May 3, 2001 - ABB today announced the appointment of a new
head of sustainability affairs, assigning Christian Kornevall, formerly of the
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), to continue driving environmental stewardship
and social development in the global technology group.
Kornevall, 54, as group senior vice president, will report directly to ABB
president and CEO Jorgen Centerman. Centerman says: 'As we continue to implement
our strategy of becoming a more customer-centric organization, increasing our
sustainability performance is absolutely vital. Customers want socially
responsible suppliers and environmentally sound products.'
Kornevall has represented the WWF in the EU expert group on sustainability and
competitiveness in Europe and has had special responsibility for developing
business and industry relations with WWF. He has a broad and international
experience, working for the United Nations International Drug Control Program
and the International Committee of the Red Cross, among others.
Kornevall studied at the Swedish Institute of Social Studies and graduated from
Stockholm University, where he focused on economics, business administration and
statistics. He is a Swedish citizen and is married with two children. He speaks
English, Swedish, French and Spanish.
Kornevall succeeds Jan Stromblad, 66, who is retiring after a long and fruitful
career with ABB. Stromblad led ABB's environmental and sustainable development
efforts since 1993, having previously worked in a number of line positions for
the company for more than 40 years.
ABB has for the past two years been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability
Group Index as the leader of its category.
ABB (www.abb.com) serves manufacturing, process and consumer industries,
utilities, the oil and gas markets, with 160,000 employees in more than 100
countries.
