Board Change
The Board of Standard Life plc ('the Company') announces the following Board change.
Jocelyn Proteau will retire from the Board of the Company and from the board of The Standard Life Assurance Company of Canada ('SCDA') at the conclusion of the Company's 2009 Annual General Meeting ('AGM') on 15 May. He has been a director of Standard Life since 2003 and has served as the chairman of SCDA since 2004. Sir Sandy Crombie, Group Chief Executive, will be appointed chairman of SCDA following Jocelyn Proteau's retirement. In addition, Bill Black, currently serving as an independent non-executive director on the board of SCDA, will be appointed as its Deputy Chairman.

'We will miss Jocelyn Proteau greatly when he retires in May. He has made a significant contribution to Standard Life and has brought a valuable North American perspective to the Board's deliberations. In particular, he has played a key role in leading the board of The Standard Life Assurance Company of Canada, and in steering it into the leading position that it holds in Canada today.'
Following the AGM, the Board of Standard Life plc will comprise three executive directors and six non-executive directors, including the Chairman. No other information is required to be disclosed pursuant to paragraph LR 9.6.11R of the Listing Rules of the Financial Services Authority in relation to this announcement.
